Everyone’s favorite boozed-up Neanderthal is back for more prehistoric mischief!
Big Nose Freaks Out contains a plot about dinosaur robbers and bones for currency, but all you need to know is that Big Nose needs bones – lots of bones. The more bones you collect, the more bonus items you receive, such as extra lives or continues. The bones are hidden in insane places that you will only find through trial and error. Looking for them gives Big Nose Freaks Out some longevity, but only the most die-hard Big Nose fans (an endangered demographic) will want to collect them all.
Instead of running through sparsely populated islands on foot as in the previous game, you roll across them on a stone wheel; a curious choice. The wheel has a mind of its own. You can’t jump very high with it, and if you hit walls, it turns you around. But Big Nose is freaking out, so wheel it is. The world is much more open-ended this time too. No longer do you move in a straight line across each level with bludgeoning abandon.
While the non-linear level structure is appreciated, the clunky wheel mechanics and boring level design prevent Big Nose from evolving beyond his Neanderthal title. Oog boog, indeed.
