What you’re about to read will not make much sense, but insanity and Chubby Cherub share the same twin-sized bed.
You control a chubby angel and fly around Japan, eating cakes and fruit and avoiding canines. While you can walk instead of fly, it’s not recommended as the dogs will rip your pure, pristine flesh apart. Dogs are everywhere in this game, but beware the barking dogs more than any other kind. To beat a cliché to death, their bark is worse than their bite, as the sound waves of the bark can kill you from across the screen.
Eating refills your power bar, which decreases as you fly. Thankfully, there’s more than enough food to go around for your fat, holy self. Collecting “P” icons gives you brief invincibility and eating lollipops allows you to attack enemies. Use the lollies well because each level gets harder and harder, with more and more dogs running wild in the streets of Japan.
Imagine Adventure Island, but instead of a skateboard-riding Master Higgins eating all the fruit he can find, you control a happy-go-lucky angel who needs ice cream to survive. We’ll never see the likes of Chubby Cherub again, but we’ll always have 1986. Ganbatte!
